The Role – Online Teacher

Due to continued growth in the TCES National Online School, we are seeking qualified subject teachers for a range of start dates, including September 2025, November 2025 & January 2026.

Our school delivers all core subjects, vocational learning and project-based learning (PBL) online, providing virtual learning and therapeutic education through online supported classrooms, with resources provided physically to pupils when required (you have to see our science lessons!!)

We are especially keen to hear from qualified subject specialist teachers in: Computer Science or Digital Skills; Creative Arts; Science and Fitness; PSHE; Careers, Business & Employability; Humanities (including A Level Sociology); Fashion & Beauty.

You must also be experienced in providing pupils with pastoral and SEND support and incorporating literacy and/or numeracy more widely.

TCES National Online School (NOS), the first – and only – Department for Education accredited online special school, is a growing service provider across the UK, engaging with young learners virtually. These young people have lengthy gaps from formal education for a variety of reasons, with the majority displaying Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA), those with trauma, ACEs and social care support.

This is a very exciting time in the development of the online school, recently nominated for several industry leading awards, including TES and NASEN Specialist Provision of the Year.

On joining us, pupils will have already – on average – experienced three permanent exclusions, been out of full-time education for up to 18 months and are recognised to be substantially at risk of being unemployed, developing severe mental health problems and involvement with the criminal justice system later in life. That is where the TCES National Online School comes in to support engagement with life-long learning, and development of independence and social skills so that our pupils become successful adults.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:

  • champion of SEN and advocate for young people, with similar values to ours: Expect the very best from each other; Develop a strong work ethic; Respect and appreciate all difference; Include everyone and exclude no one; Listen to and involve everyone; Never give up on each other!
  • Resilient and robust, role modelling outstanding professionalism.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (holding QTS, QTLS or equivalent) with relevant SEND experience and subject specialist.
  • Substantial demonstrable experience in providing differentiated and engaging learning opportunities for individuals and small classes with a variety of complex needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs & school avoidance.
  • Competent digital skills, including a good understanding of IT systems and the ability to use them effectively as a member of an online school.
  • Proven skills actively engaging in holistic teaching.
  • Organised with attention to detail.
  • Proactive and innovative, collaborating with team members in other disciplines, whilst also with the ability to work flexibly and independently.

TCES is an independent social enterprise, providing specialist therapeutic education based in London supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.

TCES pupils learn at one of our two schools, at our Create Learning Primary, through our Create in the Community service or within our National Online School; our Create services support our most complex and vulnerable pupils, with highly differentiated and personalised holistic therapeutic education programmes developed for each pupil focusing on development milestones. When they are ready, we aim for pupils to step down from Create into one of our main school, our Sixth Form, or into mainstream provisions.
