The Vacancy
We are seeking a passionate, creative and pupil-focused LIFE and PSHE Teacher to join our National Online School team. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of the LIFE curriculum (Leadership, Independence Skills, Future Options and Employability) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). Lessons will be engaging, age-appropriate and differentiated to meet the individual needs of pupils, supporting their personal development, independence, emotional wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.
The TCES National Online School provides therapeutic, virtual education for pupils with complex needs, including neurodiverse pupils and those experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA). Many of our pupils have experienced lengthy gaps in formal education and face barriers to accessing learning. Our therapeutic approach creates a supportive, flexible and nurturing environment, helping young people rebuild their confidence, re-engage with education and achieve their full potential.
As LIFE and PSHE Teacher, you will take a holistic approach to each pupil's education and wellbeing, delivering learning that supports their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes, personal aspirations and future opportunities. You will develop pupils' leadership, independence, employability and life skills, using creative teaching methods, project-based learning and real-world activities to make learning meaningful and accessible. Working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team, you will also contribute to pupils' social and emotional development, promote positive engagement and support their preparation for further education, training and employment.
Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
Experience of planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEND, including neurodiversity and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Experience or knowledge of delivering PSHE, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), personal development, life skills or employability education.
An understanding of the importance of developing pupils' independence, leadership, decision-making and preparation for adulthood.
The ability to adapt teaching approaches for an online learning environment, using digital platforms and resources effectively.
Knowledge of the National Curriculum and the ability to embed functional English and Maths skills across learning activities.
An understanding of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and how to plan learning that supports individual outcomes and personal development goals.
Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills, with the ability to develop engaging online learning resources.
The ability to build positive professional relationships with pupils, parents/carers and colleagues across education, pastoral and therapeutic teams.
An understanding of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches, positive behaviour support and emotional regulation, recognising behaviour as a form of communication.
The ability to monitor, assess and record pupil engagement and progress accurately, using data to inform teaching and identify concerns.
A strong commitment to safeguarding, pupil welfare, confidentiality and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Experience of project-based learning, delivering reflective or psychoeducational programmes, supporting accredited qualifications and preparing young people for further education, training or employment would be advantageous.
In return we offer:
Competitive salary and terms and conditions.
An opportunity to make a real difference and join a leading provider of specialist education, directly contributing towards positive outcomes for pupils with SEMH and ASC.
Excellent CPD opportunities, with all staff provided with an individual Learning & Development Plan to support career development and options to take progressive Ofqual-registered Level 3–5 qualifications in Therapeutic Education.
A comprehensive induction process, including support for all pupil-facing staff to achieve the Level 3 Award in Therapeutic Education and Group Process.
Regular half-termly staff wellbeing days.
A range of employee support and wellbeing benefits, including an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), counselling, contributions towards medical costs and access to an exclusive rewards platform.
TCES, NOS and Great Minds are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expect all staff to share this commitment. The appointment is subject to all relevant checks, including references, medical clearance and a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.
We are an equal opportunity employer.
The Company
TCES is an independent social enterprise, providing specialist therapeutic education based in London supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.
TCES pupils learn at one of our two schools, at our Create Learning Primary, through our Create in the Community service or within our National Online School; our Create services support our most complex and vulnerable pupils, with highly differentiated and personalised holistic therapeutic education programmes developed for each pupil focusing on development milestones. When they are ready, we aim for pupils to step down from Create into one of our main school, our Sixth Form, or into mainstream provisions.
